The idea to start Dodson Drone Solutions, LLC started while walking around a solar array with an IR camera, for hours. I could see significant time savings if we were able to cut out the walking aspect of the IR scan. We tried different approaches to make our infrared scans more efficient, including riding on the front of an ATV with an infrared camera while my partner drove the ATV. This did shorten the time it took to scan the entire array, but we needed two people involved which reduced the efficiency gains to almost nothing. I tried driving around a solar array in a truck with an IR camera. I quickly realized this was not very safe as I was not able to give enough of my attention to both tasks at one time.
Around this time I purchased a drone for personal enjoyment. I flew everywhere I could and even used it to take some pictures of solar arrays for use in annual reports. And then finally one day while out flying over an array taking pictures I had an “aha” moment. It was then and there that I knew I needed to get a drone that could carry an infrared camera.
Fast forward a couple of years and here we are. A Vermont-based drone services company serving all of New England.
